Support for Closed Captions

[Closed Captions] has been added as a feature under (Video Settings).
Closed captioning is a type of subtitling that describes all sounds in a currently playing video (such as music, sound effects, and conversation) with symbols and letters.
When this setting is [On], you can select closed caption options using (Subtitle Options) on the control panel.

Displaying Closed Captions

1. Select [On] under (Settings) > (Video Settings) > [Closed Captions].

2. Press the button during content playback to display the control panel.

3. Select [Closed Captions] under (Subtitle Options).

  • This setting is active only with content supporting closed captions.
  • This feature is not supported with content on Blu-ray Disc™ and DVD. Support for this feature is planned in a later system update.

The amount of saved data you can save in online storage is now increased. To use this feature you must have a Sony Entertainment Network account and subscribe to the PlayStation®Plus service.

  • The maximum available storage capacity for one account is 1 GB, and the maximum number of saved data items that can be stored is 1000.


Set the time until the system automatically turns off

Caution

  • When you change your password, an e-mail message may be sent to the e-mail address registered with PlayStation®Network (your sign-in ID). If you cannot receive messages at your registered e-mail address, you will not be able to change your password.
  • If you cannot receive messages at the e-mail address you have registered as your sign-in ID, before changing your password, make sure you have an e-mail address where you can receive messages and then contact PlayStation® Consumer Support.
  • Depending on your country/region of residence and the network environment you are using, you may not be able to change your Sony Entertainment Network account password or make use of PlayStation®Network services for some time after updating your PS3™ system software.
  • The ability to change Sony Entertainment Network account passwords and use PlayStation®Network services* will be made available in all regions within a few days.

* This does not include the use of PlayStation®Store.



PlayStation® Network

Changing your Sony Entertainment Network account password

When you sign in to PlayStation®Network, you will be required to change your password.

To change your password :

  • Select signin (Sign In) under psn (PlayStation®Network).
  • Enter the current sign-in ID (e-mail address) and password for your Sony Entertainment Network account, and then select [Sign In]. Check that you can receive messages at this e-mail address.

    Sign In

  • Select [OK] from the screen that prompts you to change your password.

    Pass Error

    A screen for entering a new password is displayed.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to change your password.
    After you have changed your password, you will be able to sign in to PlayStation®Network.
  • If the screen for entering a new password is not displayed after step 3, your PS3® system has never been activated on PlayStation®Network using your account. In this case, an e-mail message will be sent to your registered e-mail address. Follow the instructions in the e-mail message to access a website and change your password.


If you have forgotten your password

If you have forgotten your password, you will need to change it from the PlayStation®Network website. You will receive a link to the website in an e-mail message. Follow the instructions shown below.

  • Select signin (Sign In) under psn (PlayStation®Network).
  • Select [Forgot your password?] on the sign-in screen.

    Sign In

  • Enter your sign-in ID (e-mail address) and your date of birth, and then select [Continue]. Check that you can receive messages at this e-mail address.

    Forgot

  • Check that your e-mail address is correct and then select [Confirm].

    Mail

    An e-mail message will be sent to your registered e-mail address. Follow the instructions in the e-mail message to change your password. When you have changed your password, you will be able to sign in to PlayStation®Network.
  • If the Sony Entertainment Network account you are using is a sub account, it may be necessary to first sign in using the master account to change the password.

Blu-ray 3D™ disc playback

The PS3™ system can now play 3D content on Blu-ray 3D™ discs.

  • An HD 3D display, active 3D glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (each sold separately) are required for 3D features. Visit www.us.playstation.com/support/3D for details.

Limitations on Blu-ray 3D™ disc playback

  • The 3D display of some elements such as menus and subtitles may be different on the PS3™ system than on other 3D playback devices.
  • Depending on the content, some BD-J (Blu-ray Disc™ Java*) features such as BONUSVIEW™ and BD-Live™ may not play in 3D or may not function properly on the PS3™ system.
  • When Dolby TrueHD is selected as the audio format, audio will be output in Dolby Digital during playback of Blu-ray 3D™ content.
  • When DTS-HD is selected as the audio format, audio will be output in DTS during playback of Blu-ray 3D™ content.

*Blu-ray Disc Java provides enhanced bonus content, including network access, picture-in-picture (PIP) functionality and expanded local storage.

Support for stereoscopic 3D games
  • As of April 22, 2010, there are no stereoscopic 3D games available for the PlayStation®3 system. The release schedules for stereoscopic 3D games will be announced later.
  • Use an HDMI cable.to connect the PS3™ system to a TV that supports stereoscopic 3D display.
  • If the TV in use supports stereoscopic 3D display, the screen from which you can set the TV's screen size will be displayed when adjusting the video output settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the settings.

You can update your system software by any of the following methods:

  • System Update
    Update using the PS3™ system's [System Update] feature.
  • Update using a PC
    Download update data using a PC and save on storage media* or a USB Mass Storage device. Copy the update data to the PS3™ system's hard disk drive and perform the update.
  • Update using disc media
    Use the update data included on a game disc to perform the update.
  • *An appropriate USB adaptor (not included) is required to use storage media with some models of the PS3™ system.

  • The method of calculating hard disk capacity has been changed.
      * Free space on the hard disk is calculated as 1 GB (1024 x 1024 x 1024) = approx. 1,073,740,000 bytes. As a result, the free space value displayed may be less than the value that is mentioned under specifications in the product documentation. You can check hard disk free space under [Settings] > [System Settings] > [System Information].
  • Playability status with the PS3™ system has changed for some PlayStation® and PlayStation®2 format titles. To check on the latest status, visit the search site for compatible titles.
