KILLZONE™: LIBERATION BRINGS THE POPULAR ACTION GAME FRANCHISE TO THE PSP™® (PLAYSTATION®PORTABLE) SYSTEM

Second Installment of the Killzone Franchise Picks Up Where Its Predecessor Left Off in a Futuristic War Against the Evil Helghast Troops

FOSTER CITY, Calif., October 31, 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today the release of Killzone™:Liberation, available exclusively throughout North America for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system.  Developed by Guerilla, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Killzone: Liberation has been designed specifically for the PSP™ system, creating a third-person shooter that puts the players into 16 intense missions to rescue hostages from the evil Helghast.  Following the events in Killzone for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system (released in November, 2004), the story continues in Killzone: Liberation with unique offline and online features for PSP™.

“Following up on the PlayStation 2™ Greatest Hit, we expect the growing Killzone franchise to perform well on the PSP™ system,” said Susan Nourai, Director, Online and Product Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America.  “With its new and exclusive features, including a third-person perspective and multiplayer wi-fi functions, we expect Killzone: Liberation to deliver the flexibility that PSP™ fans are expecting while appealing to a wide range of gamers, including those familiar with the franchise and those new to the title.”

Set in an intense postmodern war established in the previous PlayStation 2™ title,  Killzone: Liberation features a unique graphical style that showcases a  gritty realism that’s unique to the Killzone franchise.  In the game, players are engaged in a hostage rescue mission with both online and offline modes while giving players access to a wide range of weaponry and vehicles all inspired by modern military equipment, including tanks, sniper rifles, shotguns and more. With the evil Helghast troops lurking behind every corner, players utilize an intelligent third person camera, which allows for a more tactical surveillance viewpoint to scope out the action and read the enemy’s behavior during gameplay. With the Tactical Command System players can also give orders to an AI buddy during intense stand-offs with the evil Helghast.

Online and Multiplayer Features

The multiplayer functionality in Killzone: Liberation includes both ad-hoc and infrastructure mode, taking full advantage of the wireless capabilities of the PSP™ hardware.  There are two distinct styles of gameplay offering the diversity that Killzone and PSP™ fans are expecting: 1) Two player cooperative gameplay in the single player mission 2) One to six player games over six multiplayer maps including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault and Capture the Flag.  The infrastructure mode will be available after the game’s launch as a free download at Killzone.com and will allow players to take on competitors from around the globe. Two new multiplayer maps will also be available with this mode.

Killzone: Liberation also features a gameshare mode where players can share demo levels of the game with other PSP™ owners.

The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates Killzone: Liberation “T” for “Teen” (Descriptors: Blood, Language, Violence).  For more information about the ESRB, visit www.esrb.org
