989 SPORTS® GOES STRONG TO THE HOLE WITH NBA SHOOTOUT 2003 FOR THE PLAYSTATION® GAME CONSOLE

Following a Two-Year Collaboration, 989 Sports Produces PlayStation's Premier Basketball Game

LOS ANGELES, May 21, 2002 -
Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today that NBA ShootOut 2003 from the 989 Sports® development team will be available in stores September 2002 for the PlayStation® game console. Now in its sixth season, NBA ShootOut 2003 is the product of a two-year collaboration between 989 Sports and Killer Game, resulting in a fast-paced, action-packed title that brings the true tempo of the NBA to life. With refined gameplay through restructured Artificial Intelligence (AI) and increased responsiveness in controls, NBA ShootOut 2003 offers a complete PlayStation NBA experience.

Featuring more exciting graphics including recognizable player models and impeccably designed arenas and courts, NBA ShootOut 2003 replicates the NBA in a lifelike TV style presentation complete with a two-man booth made up of Ian Eagle and Bill Walton through six modes of gameplay such as Exhibition, Season or Playoffs. NBA ShootOut 2003 furthers the NBA experience with 18 one-touch player controls including Screen, Auto Defend, Pump Fake and Special Dribble so gamers will have quicker and more refined player movements. Coupled with Total Control Passing, Screening, Shooting and Dribbling, gamers will have complete control over lifelike player motions that are the result of more than a dozen NBA stars being motion-captured in all aspects of the game, be it dribbling through traffic, passing, shooting or performing one of more than 50 signature dunks.

"After two-years of refining gameplay and animations, NBA ShootOut 2003 is without a doubt the best basketball game available for the PlayStation game console as it truly reflects the tempo and action of the NBA," said Kelly Ryan, director, sports product development, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. "No other PlayStation NBA title gives gamers the array of gameplay options and true to life graphics that make NBA ShootOut 2003 an authentic representative of the NBA experience."

With features including Create Dunk and Create Player NBA ShootOut 2003 expands the scope of NBA titles for the PlayStation game console by incorporating increased on-court creativity and basketball knowledge through player and team strategies. While working through "hot & cold streaks" just like the pros, gamers will have access to playbooks designed with the consultation of NBA stars, which include more than 450 team specific plays in precise details.

NBA ShootOut 2003 for PlayStation Key Features:

  • More Award-Winning Graphics including recognizable player models accompanied by impeccably designed arenas and courts.

  • 18 1-Touch Player Controls include Screen, Auto Defend, Pump Fake, Special Dribble & more. Gamers won't get bogged down with cumbersome controller combinations as more advanced controls have also been simplified for quicker and better player movements.
