PSPs Universal Media Disc to Facilitate Release of Audio Albums With Video Extras and Other Special Features for New PSP Players

LOS ANGELES, May 11, 2004 – Sony Computer Entertainment's announcement of the music-based Universal Media Disc (UMD), a format which is used in PSP players, has already garnered interest among major music companies. UMD will enable music companies to release full-length albums featuring audio content, innovative video footage, and other compelling programming. The format can also be used for full-length concerts and music video compilations.

"By combining the worlds of music and video in a single disc, this new initiative will provide artists with exciting new ways of connecting with their fans, as well as with additional opportunities for creative expression, " commented Philip Wiser, Chief Technology Officer, Sony Music Entertainment.
