NHL FACEOFF™ 2005 SKATES ONTO PLAYSTATION®2
989 Sports® Hockey Franchise Drops the Puck with New Graphics and Expanded Gameplay Options

FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 11, 2004 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. and 989 Sports® announced today that NHL FaceOff™ 2005 will hit retail stores this fall for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. After a line change to developer Page 44 Studios, 989 Sports’ new hockey videogame will deliver fast-paced skating, precise passing, and bone-jarring checks that simulate the fast, intense action of professional hockey.

NHL FaceOff 2005 will encompass the true power and raw emotion of the world’s fastest team sport by showcasing players with detailed facial animations that convey the intensity of their sport, and arenas that have been recreated down the smallest detail complete with venue-specific game intros, goal horns, interactive crowds and reflections off the glass.

To challenge the skill levels of all hockey videogame fans, NHL FaceOff 2005 offers an extensive list of gameplay options including an all-new Rivalry Mode that sets the stage to revisit the ultimate heated match-up time after time, Tournament Mode with customizable tournaments, Franchise (Season) Mode where gamers act as owners and a deep Online Mode that includes headset functionality with voice-recognition controls, 64 team-tournaments and downloadable roster updates. NHL FaceOff 2005 also features EyeToy ä functionality, which allows gamers to put their face into the game and become an NHL player.

Additionally, NHLFaceOff 2005 provides gamers the opportunity to play as or against one of the eight hockey powerhouses of the world including Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Norway, Russia, Sweden, or the United States while vying for the World Cup of Hockey.

“NHL FaceOff 2005 puts gamers in the skates of their favorite teams and players, delivering true-to-life action from the rink,” said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “With realistic graphics, fluid gameplay and multiple gameplay options, hockey fans will be able to enjoy a complete NHL experience.”

Designed to satisfy all hockey videogame fans from the beginner to the die-hard gamer, NHLFaceOff 2005 faces off with a savvy artificial intelligence (AI) that has been implemented to make the computer “think” just like the pros, accurate commentary and sound effects, innovative cut scenes, replays and intricate camera angles, and over 2,500 animations that were captured utilizing professional hockey players.

By combining authentic gameplay, intuitive play controls and an enhanced presentation with the fast, fluid, hard-hitting intensity of arcade style play, NHL FaceOff 2005 delivers the look, feel and passion of professional hockey.
