Unique Career Mode and All-New Online Play Highlight Latest Release of Popular Hoops

LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2003 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today that NBA ShootOut 2004 from the 989 Sports® development team will be available in stores in September 2003 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Combining enhanced graphics and gameplay with innovative game modes such as 989SportsOnline and Career Mode, NBA ShootOut 2004 hits the court this season as a true championship contender.

The heralded Career Mode returns for its sophomore season in NBA ShootOut 2004, giving gamers the opportunity to create a player and earn a spot on an NBA team. Users must shows enough skills in the Summer Pro League and National Basketball Development League to earn a contract with a NBA team. Create Dunk is another popular feature that returns to the game, allowing players to develop innovative slam dunks and implement them into the game. Not only have these modes been enhanced, but also the 989 Sports Development team has created several new features including 989SportsOnline. Gamers can now take their skills online and compete against anyone around the country. In addition, 989SportsOnline offers tournament play, roster updates and the opportunity to track the progress of one's career player compared to other players. Another all-new and highly anticipated feature is the inclusion of the 50 All-Time Greatest players, as selected by the NBA. All of these players, such as Wilt Chamberlin and Magic Johnson are available for use by accomplishing goals that relate to a specific player. Add in more than five more gameplay modes, and NBA ShootOut 2004 provides endless hours of hoops entertainment.

New options such as mid-air shot changes and shooter momentum add realism by allowing gamers to improvise their jump shots in the air. Furthermore, with the assistance of NBA players, both offensive and defensive artificial intelligence have been improved, providing a more realistic and fun experience gamers. Fully animated texture-mapped faces and bodies provide the most authentic player models ever produced while enhanced animations, with the help of motion-capture sessions from more than a dozen NBA all-stars, offer the most fluid and visually stimulating basketball game ever put forth on PlayStation 2.
